Final hours for candidates to file arrives

A flurry of activity proceeded the final days before Friday’s filing deadline.

State House Speaker Thom Tillis has joined the Republican race for a U.S. Senate seat. Tillis will compete against six others in the May primary.

Brent Shypulefski of Rocky Mount put his name on the ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives District 1 seat currently held by Rep. G.K. Butterfield.

In Vance County, incumbent Dan Brummitt, a Republican, filed to hold onto his county commission District 4 seat.

In Granville County, Republican Tim Karen put his name on the ballot for the county commission District 6 seat.

No one filed in Warren County.

The filing period runs until noon Friday.
