Election filing shortened by weather

Feb. 12, 2014 @ 06:55 PM

The third day of election filing was shortened because of the winter storm; local boards of election closed early ahead of the inclement weather.

Ronald M. Smith Sr. filed for Granville County sheriff.

No other local candidates filed in the Tri-County area or at the state Board of Elections in Raleigh.

The filing period runs until noon Friday, Feb. 28, with seats available for school board, county commission, state House and Senate, district attorney, judges, and U.S. House and Senate.

Tonya Burnette, elections director in Granville County, confirmed county offices will open on at least a two-hour delay today. Filing will resume when county offices are reopened.

Questions about filing in Vance County should be directed to the board’s office at (252) 492-3730 or (252) 492-1647.

Questions in Granville County should be made by calling (919) 693-2515. The Warren County office number is (252) 257-2114.
