Oxford urging residents to boil water
OXFORD — Officials are urging some Oxford residents to boil their water.
Water consumers in Oxford are also experiencing periods of low pressure and outages because of a break to a 12-inch water main in the area of Hillsboro and Spring streets Wednesday, according to a release.
This can cause bacteria to make its way into the water system.
As a result, the city has issued a boil order for residents in the affected area for all water meant for human consumption — including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation. Residents can also use bottled water, instead.
The city recommends boiling the water for one minute, as this will likely kill any disease-causing bacteria present in the water.
The advisory remains in effect until further notice.
