Motorcyclist flips, faces multiple charges
A Sunday motorcycle crash on Vicksboro Road left a man unconscious and facing multiple charges from the N.C. Highway Patrol.
According to Trooper Elliott Fuller, Jonathan Shearin was driving while intoxicated, recklessly and not wearing a helmet when he left the westbound roadway rightward into a ditch and flipped. He was transported to Duke University Medical Center.
Fuller said when he visited Shearin in the hospital just after midnight, Shearin was unconscious. A hospital spokesman said Tuesday Shearin has been released following treatment.
Charges filed against the 21-year-old Shearin include driving while impaired, reckless driving, expired registration, expired inspection, driving on a revoked license and a helmet violation.
Shearin was thrown from a 2007 Harley-Davidson at about 10:08 p.m., according to Fuller, who said the accident took place about one-tenth of a mile past Aycock Road.
Fuller said there was no indication of an animal or another vehicle being involved with the accident.
