An autopsy confirmed the death of 64-year-old Roger Dell Tant was a homicide.

The report by the state medical examiner stated Tant’s death was the result of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, abdomen and chest.

Tant was found dead in a pool of dried blood in the living room of his mobile home Dec. 22, 2013, by a friend.

Joey Lamont Kearney, 16, was charged with first-degree murder and robbery in this case. He has an appearance March 18 in Vance County Superior Court.

Tant owned two Smith and Wesson .38-caliber handguns — one which he wore in a holster on his hip and another tucked into the mattress in his sofa bed — both of which were missing.

The report states Tant likely died a couple of days before he was found.
