Chamber invites all to ‘Meet Me in the Street’
Henderson’s favorite warm-weather festival is back with a new lineup of musical talent.
Meet Me in the Street will officially kickoff in April.
“Meet Me in the Street, that is a concert series that the chamber hosts, and it is free to everyone; we have three concerts a year,” said John Barnes, Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce president. “… It’s an opportunity for everyone to get together with friends and family and just have a fun evening of music, dance and fellowship.”
The event also features food, drinks and vendors downtown.
This year, the first two concerts will be on Thursdays, while the last one will be on Friday.
Barnes said this arrangement happened for the first time last year by accident. A concert was rained out and had to be rescheduled on a Friday, which turned out to be a popular time slot.
This year’s lineup features oldies, beach band North Tower on Thursday, April 24. The following month, the chamber’s bringing back local favorite Steve Owens and Summertime on Thursday, May 29. The band plays a unique blend of Carolina beach, Southern soul and rock-n-roll.
Finally, Mike Brooks and The Konnection Band — which plays a mix of everything, including top 40, rock and country — will close out the series Friday, Aug. 15.
The event will stay on Breckenridge Street despite construction of the performing arts center. Barnes said the area is fenced off, and he anticipates no safety issue.
“It is an ideal location to have those concerts,” he said. “It also brings family-oriented activity to the downtown area. I think everyone involved, that’s what their goal is: to bring more events to the downtown area.”
