Scholarship opportunity available in Granville County

Feb. 22, 2013 @ 02:56 PM

Granville County students who will be enrolled in a four-year degree college or university during the 2013-2014 school year have been invited to apply for a Redding Family Foundation scholarship.

The Granville Cooperative Extension Service will process applications. Application forms are available at the cooperative extension office, 208 Wall Street in Oxford, and at Granville County high school guidance offices, or online at http://granville.ces.ncsu.edu/college-scholarships/. Forms should be returned to the office, or mailed with a postmark date on or before May 1 to P.O. Box 926, Oxford, NC 27565.

The foundation scholarship was established in memory of Mr. & Mrs. J.R. Redding by their son, Marshall E. Redding, M.D.

Dr. Redding is a former Granville County resident and is currently a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon in Long Beach, Calif. His father served as the Granville County Agricultural Extension Agent for 28 years and his mother, Bessie B. Redding, was an elementary school teacher.

The foundation contributes to the cost of undergraduate education of students who possess the intellectual capabilities for academic success, demonstrate financial need and have the desire and ability to make positive contributions to society.

Former applicants who are continuing their undergraduate studies are encouraged to reapply.

Applicants will be asked to complete an application form and attach a current transcript, SAT or ACT scores (high school senior applicants), four letters of recommendation from designated individuals, a list of other scholarships received or applied for, and a list of other sources of financial support.
