Truck crashes into building

Charges are not expected and no injuries were reported after a truck crashed into an apartment building on Coble Boulevard Monday morning.
Henderson police and emergency responders were called to Oakhill Apartments about 11:30 a.m. They found a 1997 Ford drive by William Hendry Vandyke of Oxford had struck the structure owned by a leasing company of the apartment complex.
Lt. Alan Hedgepeth confirmed no charges were pending and Vandyke was the only occupant of the truck. Henderson Fire Chief Danny Wilkerson said a laundry room area next to the leasing office sustained damage.
Police reports estimated damage to the structure at $10,000 and vehicle damage at about $2,800.
Vance County Chief Building Inspector Kevin Cash said he could concur with the general estimate on repairs to the building, adding the damage could have been worse depending on if another wall had taken the brunt of the destructive force.
“The wall damaged was not really a load-bearing wall,” Cash said. “The laundry area took damage to the wall and door.”
