Polar Plunge aids Vance County Special Olympics
Saturday’s Polar Plunge at Satterwhite Point raised an estimated $2,500 for Vance County Special Olympics, according to event organizer Julie Allred. An official total wasn’t expected before Monday.
About 50 people spread across several teams were part of the event on a cold morning with temperatures in the 30s.
Chuck Elgin of the N.C. UnderWater Response Team was on hand in his wet suit as a safety precaution during the event.
Allred said the event was put on as a way to spread the word about an organization providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
