WARRENTON — Parents’ and children’s caregivers in Warren County have a new resource to support their efforts.

Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunities is opening a family resource center program in the FVW Opportunity building at 518 West Ridgeway Street in Warrenton.

FVW Opportunity will hold an informal open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday to inaugurate the opening of the center. Community partners, parents and the public are invited to examine the facilities and learn about the services that will be offered.

Jennifer Gregory, director of family resources for FVW, said, “Our partners in Warren County have been on us to expand our services. We’re getting ready.”

The center will offer a variety of services for families, including parenting skills workshops, responsible fatherhood programming and life-skills training. The center will have a computer lab and provide assistance in searching for jobs. There will be a play area for children. Staff will supervise children’s activities while their parents are participating in adult activities.

The center will be patterned after the successful parent resource center in Vance County, which has provided parenting skills education and enrichment activities to families for 17 years.

Ongoing hours of operation for the center will be 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Responding to the requests for a center in Warren County, FVW Opportunity obtained approval from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Social Services to expand its family resource center program into the county. The expansion was made possible in part by a $125,000 Family Support Grant received by FVW Opportunity.

The grant is for three years, although Gregory said, “We have to meet bench marks each year.”

Membership in the Warren Family Resource Center is open to parents and primary caregivers of children living or working in Warren County.
