Academic calendar up for school board approval
Board action is expected to be taken on the adoption of Vance County School’s 2013-2014 academic calendar during Monday night’s school board meeting.
Adoption of the Vance County Early College High School academic calendar will be presented separately for board approval.
Both academic calendars will be discussed during the superintendent’s report.
Employment recommendations, resignations, retirements and leaves of absences are among the personnel committee’s items for board action.
The building and grounds committee will report on updates and repairs completed at all Vance County schools during the month of March.
Members of the community and business relations committee will discuss results of a parent survey conducted on March 12.
Terri Hedrick, public information officer for Vance County Schools, provided the committee members with a report on the survey, which was conducted through the school system’s Blackboard Connect 5 telephone notification system.
She noted during the community and business relations committee meeting on March 21 that results for each school have already been given to school principals.
The results, while representing a small number of parents of students in the Vance County school system, show an overall positive view of the schools in the area of learning environment, quality of the educational programs, discipline, welcoming parents into schools and the consideration of parents’ views when school decisions are made.
Recurring items include an overnight field trip request submitted by Northern Vance High School’s Advance Placement environmental science and oceanography class, and an out of county transfer request.
An executive session will be held to discuss property, legal and personnel matters.
