A joint operation by local and state police that broke up an illegal prescription drug ring in Wilson County included the arrest of a Norlina man.

Wilson police arrested 42-year-old David M. Dubovec on a charge of trafficking opium or heroin. He was one of four arrested as a culmination of a year-long undercover operation.

Also arrested were Cornelia C. Anderson, 51, of Wilson, on six counts of trafficking; Michael R. Jones, 36, of Elm City, on two counts of trafficking; and Adam G. Davies, 24, of Lucama, on one count of trafficking opium or heroin.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety and Alcohol Law Enforcement agents worked with the Wilson Police Department in the arrests, plus seizure of an estimated $44,000 worth of prescription medications.

Seized contraband included 1,674 prescription pills and 80 milliliters of liquid oxycodone hydrochloride, according to Keith Acree, the ALE public information officer.
