Police probe Thursday afternoon shooting in Henderson
Henderson Police Department officers rushed to the scene of what 911 dispatchers described as a shooting incident in the 500 block area of Dabney Drive Thursday afternoon.
Lt. Christopher Ball said police detained a fleeing suspect and one person was transported to Maria Parham Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the foot. Ball said the investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been announced at press time.
About a dozen police officers and detectives looked for evidence in the area of the Valero gas station at 555 Dabney Drive, concentrating their efforts in the rear area facing Cypress Street.
The Valero property and a neighboring property remained cordoned off by police for more than an hour, and police walked the area from Valero further along Cypress.
Unconfirmed reports indicated at least one victim of a gunshot injury incident received transport to Maria Parham Medical Center at about 4 p.m. Thursday.
At the emergency room, hospital spokesman David Ruggles said that he could not respond to questions about possible victims of a shooting.
Three marked police vehicles and what was believed to be an unmarked detective’s vehicle lined the curb immediately outside the entrance. Officers spoke with a number of unidentified men inside.
One witness at the Valero scene said he saw a car quickly move into the Valero parking area, then speed away.
Vance County deputies were assisting with the investigation, according to Sheriff Peter White.
