Deputies on Wednesday arrested two Henderson men on armed robbery and conspiracy charges, and a third man is sought from an Oct. 31 incident at a U.S. 39 convenience store.

Jailed are 19-year-old Jamarion Cheek and 22-year-old Jonathan Owens. According to Vance County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Joseph Ferguson, the suspects held up a Henderson man at Gillburg Best Bet, 4765 U.S. 39 South, taking his cellphone and $220 cash that night at about 10.

Arrest warrants note that Cheek and Owens were part of a three-person conspiracy to commit the robbery at gunpoint.

According to Ferguson, deputies were able to locate Owens and Cheek at Cheek’s 265 Lincoln Street address at Lincoln Heights Apartments. The arrest included further investigation at the apartment scene, Ferguson added.

“During the course of the arrest on these charges, they were found in possession of controlled substances,” Ferguson said.

Both were charged on a count of possessing counterfeit controlled substances for sale, Cheek on a count of marijuana possession and Owens on a count of possessing a stolen firearm.

“After further investigation, it was found to be cocaine base,” Ferguson said. “We will be amending the charges.”

Owens, of 43 Pine Forest Drive, remained jailed on $75,000 bond and Cheek on $30,000 bond. They are both scheduled to appear in Vance County District Court Dec. 9.

Police records indicate Cheek or Owens threatened the 37-year-old male victim with a small caliber revolver, forcing him to hand over a cellphone and $220 cash.

The victim was not injured. He notified deputies at about 9:30 the next morning.
