Guild honors Tucker with scholarship
Dr. W. Beverly Tucker was recently honored with a scholarship given in his honor by volunteers from the Guild Gift Gallery at Maria Parham Medical Center.
The gift of $25,000 was given to the Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund. It is the sixth scholarship established by the guild in recent years.
The guild has given more than $150,000 to the college since 2008.
Tucker’s association with the hospital is as a family practitioner for 35 years and as a board member since his 2005 retirement. Tucker was honored earlier this year as the Citizen of the Year by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce.
The guild sells convenience items and gifts at the hospital, with proceeds going to scholarships for students entering health care professions.
A number of volunteers were on hand for the presentation, along with guild president Anne Bunch, hospital CEO Bob Singletary and college president Dr. Stelfanie Williams.
