Arrest made in fatal Oxford stabbing
OXFORD — Davey Codell Allen has been arrested and charged with murder, according to a statement from the Oxford Police Department.
Allen, 42, of 921 Goshen Street in Oxford, was taken into custody Saturday. He is facing charges in connection to the stabbing death of 60-year-old Susie Ann Hester, which is believed to have happened between Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Allen, who was taken to the Granville County Jail, is facing a charge of first-degree murder. His court date was unknown.
According to Chief Al Coley’s statement on the incident, police made a wellness check about 3 a.m. Saturday at 208 King Street. No one came to the door and a family member was contacted to gain entry.
Inside, according to Coley, police found Hester had been stabbed to death. Hattie Mitchell, a caretaker for Hester, was also inside in a bed and unharmed.
The murder is the second in 11 days in or near the community.
On Sept. 25, sheriff’s office deputies responded to the Variety Mart just south of town on U.S. 15 and found Musleh Mohamed Qayed shot to death in an apparent robbery. Three days later, four arrests were made, including one on first-degree murder charges and three others on accessory charges.
Prior to the latest homicide cases, only four murder cases were open in Granville County.
