Meet Me in the Street series returns
Music, food and people will converge in the heart of Henderson Friday night for the first Meet Me in the Street of the year.
The Konnection Band, postponed last year in the series opener, will be playing live music along Breckenridge Street near the corner of North Garnett Street. Areas near what is becoming Breckenridge Commons will be blocked off for participants and booths of sponsoring vendors.
The action, with no admission charge, begins about 5:30 and wraps about 8:30.
“We do it as a benefit for the community,” said John Barnes, president of the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce. “We do it to give an opportunity for families to come together in a safe environment where the entire family and children, friends, moms and dads can come together and enjoy a free concert.”
Sheetz of Henderson is the presenting sponsor. Hot dogs, pizza and beverages will be available for sale.
Konnection plays a mixture of beach, Top 40 and pop. A dancing area will be available.
The Friday date is a scheduled first for the chamber. A year ago, when Konnection was rained out on the last Thursday of April, the available rain date was a Friday in May. Attendance was quite good, Barnes said.
“Traditionally, we have always held them on Thursday,” Barnes said. “Last year, by accident because the first event was rained out and we rescheduled, the only date available was on a Friday. That turned out to be a really popular event. So, this year we’ll try one Friday night again and that will be the first one.”
Two more Meet Me events are on tap later this year. On Thursday, May 30, Summertime will be the visiting band. On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Castaways will be back.
Konnection, the Castaways and the Entertainers were last year’s lineup.
