Dennis becomes president of non-profit academy
ASHEVILLE — Dr. Bill Dennis, family physician at Henderson Family Medicine, was recently installed as president of the N.C. Academy of Family Practitioners.
Dennis had been president-elect, in line behind Dr. Shannon B. Dowler for the past year. His term is for one year.
Dennis, former editor of The Dispatch, graduated from East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in 1999. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, which is a national medical honor society.
Dennis also has a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dennis is a 1996 Rural Health Scholar, 1998 Merck Award for Academic Excellence winner and 1999 American Society of Clinical Pathologists’ Award for Academic Excellence and Achievement winner.
The non-profit academy is the largest specialty medical association in the state with more than 3,400 members.

James Williams was honored in the second quarter and Toyrius Holder was selected for the third quarter.
