3 scheduled at Raleigh TV debate for US Senate
RALEIGH — U.S. Senate candidate Thom Tillis says he won't participate in a televised debate the night before early voting begins for the May 6 primary.
A Tillis campaign spokesman said Monday the state House speaker had a long-standing commitment that prevents him from participating in the Republican primary debate April 23 at the WRAL-TV studios in Raleigh.
The station says Greg Brannon of Cary, Heather Grant of Wilkesboro and Mark Harris of Charlotte are slated to appear on the half-hour debate to air live on WRAL, a Wilmington station, and possibly more.
Spokesman Jordan Shaw says Tillis has committed to two other TV debates to which he was invited — April 22 at Davidson College and April 28 at the UNC-TV studios in Research Triangle Park.
