Less than an hour for jury to convict suspect
BOLIVIA — A man has been sentenced to life in prison for beating and strangling an 86-year-old woman in her Brunswick County home.
It took jurors less than an hour Thursday to find 53-year-old Richard Grissett guilty of charges including first-degree murder. A judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole.
Authorities say Grissett was high on crack when he robbed, beat and strangled Linnie Mae Ward in her home in November 2012. Ward's son found her body the next day.
Prosecutors say Ward tried to fight Grissett off but was overpowered.
