Investigation under way into shooting by Beaufort police
BEAUFORT — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a man on Halloween night by two Beaufort police officers.
Chief Steve Lewis told a news conference Friday that the two officers, whose names weren't released, were placed on administrative leave as the State Bureau of Investigation looks into the shooting. The Carteret County Sheriff's Office is also investigating the shooting.
Investigators say the shooting Thursday night was the result of a domestic dispute involving Arthur Page and his sister, Susan Salazar. They say the altercation escalated at a neighbor's house, where Salazar had gone seeking help.
Page was shot and killed by the officers. Salazar and the neighbor were wounded.
Lewis said the officer's actions may have saved the lives of the two survivors.
