Lieutenant governor not happy with answers on common core
RALEIGH — Lt. Gov. Dan Forest is disappointed with the answers he's received from the state education department about uniform benchmarks for reading, writing and math being implemented in North Carolina and most other states.
Forest released a video Thursday after getting a response from state schools Superintendent June Atkinson to 67 questions he posed to her agency last month about Common Core standards.
Forest contends Atkinson didn't respond directly to the questions but directed him in part to more than 100 web sites. Atkinson's Department of Public Instruction also sent him hard copies of the information totaling 40,000 pages.
Forest says he can't understand why he failed to receive common sense answers from the department.
Forest is a member of the State Board of Education, which is examining the standards.
