EMERALD ISLE — The Carteret County beach town of Emerald Isle plans to put in special docks for those who use kayaks and paddle boards.

The Jacksonville Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/10fGhLh) the town is responding to increased interest in both the activities.

The town is seeking a North Carolina Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access grant to pay for 75 percent of the $30,000 project.

Plans call for putting docks in three locations on Bogue Sound for those participating in the sports.

The docks are designed to make it easy for a kayak to slide into the water and to make it easy to launch paddleboards.

The town envisions aluminum gangways to provide access to the docks.
