Report expected on Durham shooting death
DURHAM — Durham officials say they expect local officers will soon release a state police report detailing the death of a handcuffed teen in the back of a patrol car.
Durham Mayor Bill Bell said Thursday that he thought the Durham Police Department would release a report by the State Bureau of Investigation next week.
Police say 17-year-old Jesus Huerta shot himself in the head after he had been searched and his hands handcuffed behind his back following his Nov. 19 arrest on trespassing charges. Huerta's family and friends are not convinced by the police department's explanation of how Huerta died.
On Thursday, a spokeswoman for state prosecutors said the report was complete except for a final autopsy report, which isn't yet available.
