RALEIGH — A review panel is looking into operations, academic performance and money controls of charter schools that want to stay in operation for up to another 10 years.

The state's Charter Advisory Board finished questioning representatives of eight schools on Tuesday before voting on whether to renew their charters for 2014. Four other charter schools received 10-year renewals last month. Some schools receive shorter terms because of compliance problems.

The board's mission is to ensure high quality charter schools. Its recommendations will go before the State Board of Education for a final decision.
