McCrory visits with Interior secretary
RALEIGH — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has spoken in person to a second member of President Barack Obama's Cabinet this month about efforts to expand offshore energy exploration off the coast.
McCrory and two other governors met Monday with U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and other officials in Washington. McCrory participated as the new chairman of the Outer Continental Shelf Governors Coalition.
McCrory's office said he, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant and Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley asked Jewell for the administration to move forward with responsible development in oil, natural gas and wind energy.
McCrory had been in Washington for the National Governors Association that began over the weekend. The governor also met with U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz about three weeks ago.
