Teen arrested for attempted armed robbery
Henderson police have arrested a teenager and charged him with participating in an early-morning attempted armed robbery on Monday.
Daiquan Waddell, a 16-year-old of 1828 South Clearview Drive, is believed to have used a shotgun attempting to rob the Bojangles’ on East Andrews Avenue. Lt. Christopher Ball confirmed Waddell is charged with attempted robbery, assault by pointing a gun and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
Waddell’s bond was set at $150,000. He has a Vance County District Court hearing on Feb. 14.
Among other items seized, police took a half-barrel shotgun, a shotgun shell casing and a white mesh bag as evidence.
A 23-year-old Henderson woman was reported as a victim. The incident took place about 5 a.m.
In a separate incident Wednesday, police say a gunshot was fired by a robber, striking a car at the Gate City Gas Station at 601 West Andrews Avenue.
Ball confirmed no injuries in the incident. The vehicle struck was the 1997 Jeep Cherokee of Jermaine Knott, 21, of Henderson.
The police report indicates $1,500 damage to a gas pump.
The items taken from Knott were not listed in the report.
