Filing ends at noon Friday for Middleburg

And then there was one day remaining.

Three weeks ago, the election filing period opened in Vance County. Today at noon, the extended period made necessary for Middleburg will come to an end.

Because the races for mayor and three commissioner seats had only two candidates for commissioner, the Vance County Board of Elections opted to extend the filing period. Another option was to take the highest vote total for a write-in nomination.

Entering today, two candidates for mayor and four for commissioners are scheduled to appear on the ballot.

The mayoral race will include challenger Dean Dickerson and incumbent Ray Bullock.

The commissioners’ race includes challenger D.L. Dusty Herring and incumbents Annie Fudge, Ruth Nance and Gary Plummer.

Questions on the filing period today can be directed to the board of elections office at (252) 492-3730 or (252) 492-1647. Anyone wishing to file can do so at the Board of Elections office, located at 300 South Garnett Street in Henderson. The office opens at 8:30 a.m.
