Oxford plays host to Strawberry Day
The Oxford Economic Development Corporation is inviting county residents and visitors to Strawberry Day on Saturday.
Oxford Parks and Recreation will hold the 2013 Oxford Race for Life and Strawberry Strut beginning at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 at Hix Field.
From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., downtown merchants will offer special sales and activities.
Nan’s Young Fashions will offer face painting, store specials and refreshments.
Stovall’s Gifts will let participants sample a selection of beers and wines, chocolate covered strawberries and store specials.
From 1 to 3 p.m., This and That will host a tea party, where visitors can sample teas and strawberry cake.
Ace Hardware will offer locally grown strawberries, gifts and hardware needs.
Torrey’s Flowers and Wedding Center will display fresh arrangements, garden baskets, strawberry candles and the fragrance of the month. In keeping with the theme, strawberry cobbler will be served.
The Farmers Market at the corner of McClanahan and Lanier streets will feature strawberries along with other produce from 7 a.m. until noon.
All along Main Street and in participating shops, artisans and craft vendors will display their goods. Food and bake goods will be offered for sale. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., tickets for rides for kids will be available. A zumba party will be held in the street from 11 a.m to noon.
And Oxford Bed & Breakfast at the Olde Parsonage at 214 Main Street has invited overnight visitors to get a taste of genuine southern hospitality.
