Spring 5K scheduled Saturday morning

May. 09, 2013 @ 05:14 PM

Registration will remain open Saturday morning prior to the celebratory Girls on the Run 2013 Spring 5K.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Breckenridge Street, in front of the Henderson Police Department. It is the final event for girls who have completed the 24-lesson curriculum used to inspire girls to become independent thinkers, problem solvers and health conscious.

GOTR is a non-profit program for third- through eighth-grade girls. The mission is to prompt girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Running is used to motivate girls by encouraging lifelong health and fitness and building confidence through accomplishment.

Completing a 5K is designed to give the girls a tangible sense of achievement while providing instruction in how to set and meet life goals. The girls see that something seemingly impossible is in fact attainable, teaching the principle girls can do whatever they put their minds to doing.

The race is not limited to program participants, but is open to all who register. The fee is $30 per adult and $20 per child if purchased during race day registration.

Discounted prices are available online until midnight tonight at gotrvance.org for both recreational and competitive participants. Registered runners will be able to view their times via race clock display, results kiosks, text messaging and online after the event.

Competitive participants will receive disposable timing chips from Precision Race. The event is open to the public.
