KITTRELL — Two men were shot Monday and an 11-year-old is facing juvenile charges for the fatal death of his 84-year-old grandfather.

A Monday evening altercation involved 49-year-old Lloyd P. Woodlief, father of the 11-year-old, and 84-year-old Lloyd Woodlief. The elder Woodlief shot his son, and then was shot to death by the juvenile, according to the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened at 430 Cricket Creek Lane in Kittrell. The office of Vance County Sheriff Peter White confirmed the grandfather was shot with a 12-guage shotgun in a press release.

The 11-year-old was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
“A juvenile petition has been taken out against the 11-year-old,” White said Tuesday. “He is in the custody of juvenile services.”

The juvenile petition is equivalent to an arrest warrant for adult offenders.

White said he cannot release the name of the 11-year-old boy because of his age.

According to the statement, deputies responded to an altercation at about 7 p.m. Monday. They found the 84-year-old Lloyd Woodlief, of 430 Cricket Creek Lane, shot once, and he died on the scene shortly after deputies arrived.

They also found 49-year-old Lloyd Peyton Woodlief, of 450 Tharrington Lane in Henderson, had been shot with a .22-caliber pistol. He was being treated at Duke University Hospital.
