Police arrest suspect in homicide

Daiquan Jameek Waddell, 18, 1828 S. Clearview Drive, Henderson, was arrested Wednesday on Alexander Avenue in connection with one homicide and four armed robberies this month.

Waddell has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-degree kidnapping, stemming from the shooting death of Ahmend Shahit, 55, Monday night at the BP station, 615 Raleigh Road, Henderson.

Lt. Alan Hedgepeth of the Henderson Police Department said he was taken into custody without issue.

He was jailed in Vance County without bond pending a preliminary hearing in Vance County District Court.

Waddell has also been charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon relating to the robbery reported at the Raleigh Road Convenient Mart on March 11 and two robberies reported at the Waffle House, 942 W. Andrews Avenue, Henderson, on March 13 and 18.

Waddell was detained after a multi-jurisdictional investigation involving the Henderson Police Department, Vance County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Hedgepeth said an additional arrest may be forth coming.
