The Warren County Board of Commissioners will kick off the process of developing a 2013-2014 budget with a work session on Wednesday.

The board will meet at the Armory Civic Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

To provide background for the discussions, County Manager Linda Worth and Finance Director Barry Mayo will present a survey of the county’s fiscal condition and the economic outlook.

Auditor Jennifer Reese, of Winston, Williams, Creech, Evans & Co., LLP, will present a FY 12 draft Warren County audit report.

Worth will recommend that the commissioners appropriate $12,000 from the undesignated fund balance to conduct a job classification and compensation study to be used by the board in planning the 2013-2014 budget.

Worth and Charles Williams, manager of the county’s buildings and grounds, will provide an update on major building repair projects. The most pressing needs are plumbing upgrades at the detention center and roof replacements on three buildings at Vance-Granville Community College. Those projects would cost an estimated $151,500.

The commissioners will hear a presentation by Warren County Schools Superintendent Ray Spain on capital needs of the school system.

Presentations will be made by Public Works Director Marshall Brothers, Emergency Services Director Doug Young and Fire Marshal Dennis Paschall.
