Deputies arrest Sunday murder suspect at scene
Deputies in Granville County have made an arrest and filed a charge of murder for a Sunday homicide near the county line borders of Granville, Wake and Franklin counties.
Granville Sheriff Brindell Wilkins Jr. said 41-year-old David Christopher Davis was taken into custody at 580 Woodland Church Road. There, 61-year-old James Wayne Shearon was found shot to death.
Shearon was Davis’ uncle, according to Wilkins. Shearon lived about one-half mile away, at 14208 Camp Kanata Road, Wake Forest.
Davis is charged with second-degree murder, and remains jailed on $2 million bond pending a Granville County District Court hearing scheduled for Monday.
“We got a disturbance call about someone being injured,” Wilkins said. “He shot the man twice. He used a shotgun.”
Deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Wilkins. He did not indicate a motive, or if there was any sign of an altercation. Wilkins said the two were the only people in the home at the time of the shooting.
Neither Shearon nor Davis carry past convictions that involved North Carolina supervised probation or incarceration, according to state prison records.
The incident is the third reported murder in Granville County this fall.
On Sept. 25, the shooting death of Musleh Mohamed Saleh Qayed resulted in the arrest of Rodriquez Teshawn Thomas on a charge of first-degree murder.
On Oct. 5, the stabbing death of 60-year-old Susie Ann Hester resulted in the arrest of Davey Codell Allen on a charge of first-degree murder.
