Granville filing begins on Friday at noon

Granville County Elections Director Tonya Burnette has announced the filing period for municipal elections that will take place on Nov. 5, 2013.

The filing period will begin on Friday at noon and end on Friday, July 19, at noon. The elections office, located at 122 Williamsboro Street in Oxford, opens daily Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. during the two-week period.

To be eligible, candidates must reside in the municipality they wish to serve.

In Oxford, seats up for election are the mayor and four city commissioners. The incumbents are mayor Jackie Sergent and commissioners Ron Bullock, Danny Currin, Calvin Harris Jr. and Betty Moseley.

Elections will also be conducted in the Granville municipalities of Creedmoor, Stem, Stovall and Butner.
