Local garden club celebrates 64th anniversary at February meeting
The Daisy Garden Club met in February, with Barbara Carroll, club president, acting as hostess. The club, organized in 1949, made a sign reading “Happy 64th Anniversary of the Daisy Garden Club,” which was on display.
“Gifts from My Front Porch,” from Harriet E. Crosby’s book, “Inspirational Thoughts, Insights and Reflections,” was read by Vivian Lemay Bullock as the devotion. Attendees then sang “O Beautiful for Garden Green,” followed by a prayer recited by Bullock.
Carroll conducted the business session; correspondences and committee reports followed. Next, the Daisette Youth report was given by Bullock.
Club members welcomed new member, Delores Green, who received a daisy corsage from Carroll.
Carroll, in recognition of the occasion, praised the members for the service they have demonstrated over the years to both club and community. A silent prayer followed Naomi Dixon’s lighting of a white candle in memory of club members who had passed on.
Using cut flowers and a clear glass vase, members made a flower arrangement, which will be given to a sick and shut-in member. It consisted of yellow mums, daisies, pink miniature carnation, chrysanthemum and acuba.
Carroll was thanked by Edith Hare for hosting the meeting. Velma Steed will host the upcoming meeting in March.
