Dabney Elementary secures grants for revitalization effort

Two teachers at Dabney Elementary School recently aided the school in securing a $5,000 grant.
The Nathan Cummings Foundation, based in New York, N.Y., is providing the grant funding.
In writing the grant request, Shirley Kit (an exceptional children’s teacher) and Kathryn Reed (a kindergarten teacher) provided details on how the funding would be used by the school for the purpose of revitalizing its courtyard.
School officials hope to begin using the grant funds soon to purchase items — such as new plants, flowers and mulch — for the courtyard.
Dr. Michael Putney, principal of Dabney Elementary, said that the staff and students at the school were enthusiastic about the plans and eager to begin work on the courtyard.
