Local garden club installs officers for 2013-2014
Edith R. J. Carroll served as hostess for the January meeting of the Daisy Garden Club. The living room at her home was enhanced by various plants, including red poinsettias.
A devotion with a prayer, led by Patricia Banks Holt, was followed by a group rendition of the club’s song. Next, Holt gave a Bible reading (Deuteronomy 8:15).
Afterward, the business session was conducted by Barbara Carroll, club president. A report submitted by the Daisette Youth Club was presented. Another report, this one concerning a special flower planting project at Perry Memorial Library, was given by Vivian Bullock.
Then, Edith Carroll, with the group’s participation discussed various birds, such as bluebirds, cardinals, hummingbirds, American robins and woodpeckers during her program “Birds, Our Backyard Friends.” Each member in attendance presented information about a particular bird and recalled the various types they had spotted on their property. Carroll presented a poster, displaying several feeders and birdhouses, to the group, as well as various recycled items that can be used to create birdhouses.
Edith Hare installed the club’s officers for 2013-2014 following the discussion.
Velma Steed thanked Carroll for hosting the meeting.
