Backyard chicken class rescheduled for Saturday
Originally scheduled for Feb. 9 by Vance-Granville Community College, the one-day “Backyard Chicken Craft” class will now be conducted Saturday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Among several personal enrichment offered by the school, this course will include a classroom component (on the main campus in Vance County) and a hands-on portion (to take place at instructor Mike Holland’s farm on Lickskillet Road in Warren County).
Holland will instruct students on specific details of raising chickens: how many to raise, what breed to pick, the housing and care involved, and ultimately whether or not the venture is something they should pursue. Students will have a one-hour lunch break.
The cost for each student to take this course is $25. A pair of sessions will also be offered in April.
“Beekeeping Basics,” which starts Thursday and is also taught by Holland, still has spaces available.
