Tubman descendant part of Black History celebration on Friday

The Vance County Arts Council has scheduled a celebration of Black History for Friday, at 6 p.m., at Emrose Gallery, 233 S. Garnett St., Henderson. The theme for this event is “Black History — Our Past Gives Us Strength, the Future Gives Us Hope.”
Dr. David E. Alston, a descendant of Harriet Tubman, will be in attendance, promoting his book, “Son of Another Mother: the Struggle of Being Adopted.”
Musical groups will be on hand. Prizes will be given out for a Black History trivia contest.
