Benefit concert for adolescent parents coming Saturday
Mother’s Day Gospel Fest, a benefit concert (sponsored by Eckerd) for the Eckerd Parenting Program, will take place Saturday, from 6 p.m. until, in the gymnasium at Western Vance High School, 2785 Poplar Creek Road, Henderson.
Groups appearing on the program will include: New Vision, Spiritual Voices, Carolina Kings, The Mighty Pilgrim Harmonies, all of Henderson; The Chavis Family and Spiritual Entertainers, both of Oxford; Rickey Simmons of Louisburg; and The Loving Sisters of Roxboro. Shirley McCaden of Oxford will emcee this event.
Those interested in attending may do so for either a $5 entrance fee or a donation of articles of baby clothing (children ages 0-4). Baby formula, diapers, bottles and wipes or gift cards are also needed. All donations are tax deductible.
Free to adolescent mothers and fathers up to age 19 enrolled in an educational program are eligible for aid through the Eckerd Parenting Program. Using a proven evidence-based model, “Partners for Healthy Babies,” it assists adolescent parents in completing their education, acquiring job skills, improving their parenting abilities and preventing future pregnancies.
