It’s ‘Earth Day Every Day’ at Kittrell Job Corps
From April 16-23, Earth Day Every Day was celebrated at Kittrell Job Corps Center in order to educate students and staff, as well as the community, on methods for conserving energy and water, and to promote eco-friendly practices that would carry over into the workplace and at home.
The center’s green committee (which includes Joan Robinson, business community liaison), CTT instructors and trade students organized the event. Activities were scheduled both on- and off-site.
Participants displayed “Greening” throughout their trade area and demonstrations of green initiatives were conducted. Attendees also witnessed the following attractions: displays of essays, posters and poems; competitions; and electric car on display; and a gardening demonstration.
All trash collected at a location alongside U.S. 1 South in Kittrell was recycled during a community-wide Spring Litter Sweep Adopt-A-Highway project.
Several students and the center’s maintenance manager visited the Vance County Senior Center to make a presentation on energy efficiency. Distributing energy efficiency light bulbs to the residents, they explained how to use energy efficiency lights and appliances to reduce their monthly electric bills.
