Ridgeway Missionary Baptist to celebrate Women’s Day

Ridgeway Missionary Baptist Church, 156 Wycoff Road, Ridgeway, will observe its annual Women’s Day Program on May 5, with services beginning at 11:15 a.m. The Rev. Willie T. Ramey III, pastor, and the congregation cordially invite the public to attend. Music will be provided by the MLK Choir, under the direction of Frazier Williams. The featured speaker for this occasion will be the Rev. Gwen Starr.

A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Starr currently resides in Franklinton and is employed at Shaw University, Raleigh.

She holds a bachelor of science degree in office administration from Winston-Salem State University and a master of arts degree in liberal studies from North Carolina State University. She is currently pursuing a master of Divinity degree in Women’s Studies at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest.

Starr frequently coordinates events for women, such as retreats, women’s conferences and education assemblies. She is the founder and president of Women in God’s Service (W.I.N.G.S.), the women’s ministry at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

She is the author of three novels and several books of poetry. She also teaches a weekly Bible study adult class at her church.

She is married to the Rev. H.T. Starr, pastor of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Louisburg.
