Installation service held for new pastor of Kittrell First Baptist

On April 7, the Rev. Andre F. Gilliard was installed as the new pastor of Kittrell First Baptist Church, 1380 N. Chavis Road, Kittrell.

Gilliard was born and raised in Baltimore, Md. Nearly three years ago, he and his family moved from Maryland to his wife’s home state of North Carolina. He is a former chaplain with The Baltimore County Police and Fire Department and is currently a chaplain with Emergency Chaplains serving Durham/Raleigh area and surrounding counties. He continuously volunteers in community services and is often called upon to speak at local high schools in Vance County. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and has received numerous awards, including Outstanding Young Men of America and the Baltimore County Police/Fire Departments Commander’s Award.

His educational background includes a master of arts degree in theology from Saint Mary’s Seminary and University, Baltimore, Md.; and course work in Penn State University’s Cooperative Extension Program. In 2014, he is projected to complete his Doctoral thesis at Duke University - School of Divinity.

He previously worked at Procter and Gamble in several capacities: Research and Development; Quality Assurance; Planning and Logistics; Distribution; and Microbiology.

Gilliard is married to the former Veronica D. Roberts; together, they have three children, Andrea, Amari and Reina.
