College hosts manufacturing careers event
Vance-Granville Community College recently held its second Advanced Manufacturing Career Awareness Day in the civic center on the college's main campus in Vance County.
The event was held in observance of North Carolina Manufacturing Awareness Week, beginning April 7.
Around 400 high school and middle school students from Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin counties attended the event to learn about future job opportunities.
Manufacturers and other vendors set up booths at the event, providing career information and demonstrations of the latest industrial technologies.
Instructors and students at the college provided information to the high school students on continuing their education and getting a head start by taking college classes while still in high school.
The event was sponsored by the college’s industry services and applied technologies departments, in partnership with career and technical education departments from the public school systems in the four participating counties.
