Cherry Hill: Trio of piano students to perform free concert

Jun. 20, 2013 @ 08:08 PM

Warren County’s historic Cherry Hill will present a special program Sunday, featuring three piano students.

Dr. Margaret Evans of Meredith College and Dr. Keiko Sekino of East Carolina University, who will direct the concert, chose these students for their potential as future professional musicians. Performing selections from Beethoven, Mendoza, Ireland and Prokofiev (among others) will be:

• Kate Avery, who is currently working toward a master of music degree in piano performance at East Carolina University;

• Daniel Liauw, a junior studying polymer chemistry at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, who has received an invite from the Smedes Parlor Concert Series to perform as a soloist; and

• Carely Mendoza, a former student at the Conservatorio National de Musica in Santo Domingo and current student at East Carolina University in pursuit of a bachelor of music degree.

This concert will be presented at 3 p.m. free of charge.

A preserved mid-19th Century plantation home, Cherry Hill is located on N.C. 58 in the Warren County community of Inez.
