Blackwell to speak at genealogical society meeting
A.J. Blackwell will be the featured speaker for Thursday's meeting of the Granville County Genealogical Society.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Richard H. Thornton Library in Oxford.
Blackwell is a Granville County native and a World War II veteran who served with the Navy in the Pacific and the Philippine Islands from 1945-1946. He was also a passenger on the last Flight of Honor in April 2012, which carried World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Veterans Memorial.
Blackwell pursued a career in the dairy business after the war and has been an active member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and the Mountain Creek community.
All Vance County Genealogical Society meetings are open to the public.
