Baskerville will speak at Henderson Institute class reunion banquet
The 37th reunion of the Henderson Institute Graduates and Former Students Association is scheduled Friday through Sunday, hosted by the Class of 1963 celebrating its 50th anniversary.
A meet and greet is scheduled Friday at the Quality Inn on Parham Road and a banquet is planned Saturday at Vance-Granville Community College.
Leslie Baskerville, a 1963 graduate of Henderson Institute, is the banquet speaker. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from N.C. A&T and a master’s from N.C. Central. He also studied at Columbia University in New York.
Baskerville taught on staffs at St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Va., and at Vance-Granville. He’s also been in leadership and consulting positions, respectively, with the state’s Division of Youth Services and Department of Public Instruction.
Baskerville is past chairman of the Vance County Democratic Party and the Vance County Black Leadership Caucus. He is senior advisor to state Rep. Nathan Baskerville.
He’s a member of the Vance County Senior Center Advisory Council as well as the Ashley Grove Baptist Church, where he is an active leader in several areas.
Baskerville is married to the former Carolyn Burwell. They have two children, Kelvin and Rashida.
