Reavis discusses book at Vance County Genealogical Society meeting
David C. Reavis brought history to life for 50 plus society members and interested persons during a meeting of the Vance County Genealogical Society on Jan. 14
Reavis read from and reflected upon his new book, “Upon These Steps,” based on the Reavis Homeplace built in 1789. An epic story of a Southern family, it blends historical fiction with a story line that demonstrates the resiliency of the human spirit.
The author spent over 35 years conducting genealogical research in preparation for writing the book. All of the characters are based on actual people living during the Civil War. Several events depicted are based on eyewitness accounts as recorded in letters written by soldiers during the time period.
The Vance County Genealogical Society meets the second Monday night of every month at Perry Memorial Library. Visitors are welcome to attend the next meeting on Feb. 11.
