Free tax assistance offered at senior center
Trained AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be offering free North Carolina and federal electronic income tax preparation assistance at the Vance County Senior Center. The program is specifically designed to assist the elderly in preparing their personal income tax returns. However, anyone can receive assistance for their taxes from these volunteers, including most low-to-middle income individuals of any age. To use e-file, an appointment will need to be made.
Area residents should bring the following documents with them when filing: last year’s (2011) tax returns as well as this year’s (2012) W-2’s, 1099’s, unemployment/pension/social security/dependent care provider forms and statements, charitable contribution receipt totals, and all other current tax information and forms. Social Security cards for each family member should be brought along, as well as your photo IDs so that names and numbers can be verified. Those wishing to file should also bring a blank check.
Located at 126 S. Garnett St., Henderson, the center will offer tax assistance on Wednesday’s, from Feb. 6-April 10. Appointments can be made by calling (252) 430-0257.
